The story

Hexagonal pogon in Soviet ebonite — handmade, one of a kind, no. 271.

Ebonite began as an industrial insulator and as stock for mouthpieces, combs, and instrument housings, so Soviet reserves are dense, honest rubber without modern cost-cutting fillers. More on the material’s properties in the “Soviet ebonite” section.

The form shows best on dense, uniform, well-polished materials — mammoth ivory, black ebony, dark horn and tight stone — where each of the six facets holds a flawlessly clean line.

Handmade by Zhenya Kartavyh. Made once and never repeated. Overall length 22 cm, weight 44 g. This piece is sold; we can craft a similar one to order.
