The wood is often additionally colored by adding pigment to the resin, yielding striking blue, emerald, wine, and multicolored shades while keeping the living texture of the grain and burl. More on the material’s properties in the “stabilized wood” section.
The form shows best on dense, uniform, well-polished materials — mammoth ivory, black ebony, dark horn and tight stone — where each of the six facets holds a flawlessly clean line.
