Cushions in walrus tusk — handmade, one of a kind, no. 739.
It is recognised at once by its double structure: a dense white outer layer and a core of secondary dentine with a marbled, crystalline grain — this inner pattern is the walrus's signature, by which the material is identified beyond doubt. Carvers favour this cut because it offers two characters at once — the flats catch and return light in even highlights, while the rounded edges stay smooth in the fingers and never bite the skin during a long roll.
