The story

Cushions in Soviet ebonite — handmade, one of a kind, no. 95.

Ebonite began as an industrial insulator and as stock for mouthpieces, combs, and instrument housings, so Soviet reserves are dense, honest rubber without modern cost-cutting fillers. More on the material’s properties in the “Soviet ebonite” section.

Carvers favour this cut because it offers two characters at once — the flats catch and return light in even highlights, while the rounded edges stay smooth in the fingers and never bite the skin during a long roll.

Handmade by Nikolay. It cannot be reproduced exactly. Overall length 22 cm, weight 33 g. This piece is sold; we can craft a similar one to order.
