About Pink Ivory wood

Pink Ivory wood is one of the most valuable timbers in the world and, despite its name, has nothing to do with ivory: it is a dense African hardwood (Berchemia zeyheri), growing mainly in southern Africa and historically revered by the Zulu people as a royal wood. Its great virtue is a rare natural pink colour, from soft salmon to rich berry-raspberry, scarcely found among any other timber; it is for this hue that Pink Ivory worry beads are prized above most coloured woods. Legally all is clean: this is cultivated and lawfully harvested timber, free of CITES questions for commercial trade from a responsible source, with no ethical compromise. The wood is exceptionally dense, heavy, and fine-grained, which lets it polish to a deep, almost waxy shine with no lacquer at all — the surface seems to glow from within. In the hand Pink Ivory is warm, as wood should be, but noticeably denser and heavier than ordinary species, with a smooth, tactilely rich surface. Spun, it sounds warm and soft, with a pleasant wooden click, a touch brighter than light woods thanks to its density. Over time, under light and air, the colour deepens and the pink tone grows richer — the wood literally improves with age. Care is simple: protect from direct sun so the colour ages evenly, no water, an occasional light buff with a cloth. These beads are chosen for their unique colour, noble density, and the rarity of the species — for those who want a warm wood with a truly royal character.
