About Mini-carpet

Mini-carpet is the carpet in a reduced calibre: a string with fully carved or patterned coverage along the whole cord, but with small grains and a tighter step of ornament. The name inherits from the larger model — the pattern still runs border to border as a continuous cloth, only now the repeat is finer and denser. In miniature the task grows many times harder: fine relief must be cut on a tiny surface while keeping the design joined between neighbouring beads, so a mini-carpet is a mark of a high-class carver. It is worked delicately, with the fingertips; the small textured grains run in a quick, fine stream and catch pleasantly at the skin, giving pronounced tactile feedback. The sound is thin and rapid, slightly muffled by the relief. The model's signature is the union of rich, continuous ornament with the compactness and comfort of everyday carry: all the decoration of a carpet in an all-day format. The form shows best on uniform, fine-grained materials that hold the finest relief — mammoth ivory, dense wood, horn and bone — where even miniature carving comes out crisp and patina, over time, softly lights the pattern.
