Where old family beads are concerned, elephant ivory feels remarkably warm and smooth, with a soft glow no substitute matches; spun, it rings clear and melodic with a long bony tone. We cover the “elephant ivory” material separately.
The maker carefully balances calibre and the gap between grains: too tight and the flow bogs down, too loose and the rhythm is lost, so well-judged peribory are prized for their measured, almost musical run.
