Peribory is a format built around the act of telling the beads itself: the grains are matched in size, weight and spacing so that bead after bead flows through the fingers in a continuous, rhythmic stream. The name comes straight from the Russian verb perebirat — to tell or finger through — and it is about process, the meditative motor habit of the hand, not decoration. The maker carefully balances calibre and the gap between grains: too tight and the flow bogs down, too loose and the rhythm is lost, so well-judged peribory are prized for their measured, almost musical run. They are worked softly and without pause, passing the beads under the fingertips one after another; this is the most process-driven of formats, taken up to calm and focus the mind. The sound is even and steady, like a quiet metronome of successive clicks. The model's signature lies not in its looks but in perfectly tuned tactile dynamics: peribory are judged by hand as much as by eye. The format shows best on smooth, pleasantly gliding, moderately heavy materials — mammoth ivory, amber, polished stone and dense wood — which give a clean run and a long, soothing rhythm.
