German colored ebonite (often marked SEM / SEM Hartgummi) is a modern, premium-grade hard rubber that, unlike classic black ebonite, comes in a rich palette: deep burgundy, tobacco, amber, emerald, marbled and multicolored blends. This is achieved by dyeing and layering the compound before vulcanization, so the color runs through the material rather than sitting as a film on top.
